Husna R. Baksh, M.D., P.C.


Dr. Baksh obtained her degree from Howard University Medical School in 1989. She did her residency at the Washington Hospital Center followed by a year at Children’s National Medical Center. In 1993, she became a volunteer at the Whitman Walker Clinic and, in 1994 became a Staff Physician at the National Naval Medical Center, Medical Acute Care Clinic. In 1997, she took on directorial roles at both of these clinics. As Dr. Baksh expands her practice she makes herself available for your concerns through a dynamic staff who share her beliefs of service, detail and working closely with you to achieve your health and happiness.

Ann E. Ruffalo PA-C, MPAS, MS


Annie is a PA-C with experience in Internal Medicine who comes to us from the Midwest. She did her undergraduate work at Grinnell College in Grinnell, Iowa before obtaining a Masters in Microbiology at the University of Missouri-Columbia. She completed the Physician Assistant program at the University of Iowa in 2010 and has spent the last 4 years taking care of patients in an Internal Medicine clinic in Ottumwa, Iowa.


In 2014 she was awarded the People's Choice award for top Physician Assistant by the Ottumwa Courier.

Her interest in management of chronic care conditions such as diabetes and hypertension fits right into the Healthy Steps philosophy of preventive care.




J. Raj Matta PA-C, MPAS, DHSc


Raj has a diverse background in healthcare, research, education, and management. He is a team-focused, board certified and licensed Physician Assistant (PA). He has a wide variety of private and public sector experience in the healthcare industry.


He obtained his BS in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from the University of Maryland Baltimore County followed by another degree in PA from Howard University. He has a Masters in PA Studies from University of Nebraska Medical Center and a Doctorate from Nova Southeastern University. Additionally, he obtained special recognition in Primary Care as well as Surgery sub-specialties.


He has co-authored numerous publications in highly regarded scientific journals. He believes in the same Healthy Steps philosophy of taking care of patients with utmost respect and professionalism..

Michala Jorrín, NP-C, MS

Michala Jorrín is a family nurse practitioner. She earned her master’s degree from Georgetown University in 2016 and her undergraduate nursing degree from Regis University. She also holds a bachelor’s degree in Spanish and Anthropology from Rhode Island College. She has a diverse nursing background in neurological trauma and stroke care, cardiac care, emergency medicine and orthopedic trauma.

Michala has a passion for helping people prevent chronic disease and acute illness through preventive care. She believes in helping people reach their health goals while caring for the entire person.

Leslee McElrath, M.D.

Dr McElrath trained in family medicine and joins us from Dayton Ohio to serve our community. She, as in the philosophy of Healthy Steps, takes a great interest in the prevention of cardiovascular diseases as well as emotional health and its affects on our physical well-being.

For fun she runs up and down the 15 flights in her apartment building as she focuses on losing the weight that she has gained throughout the stressful years of becoming a physician.  She states,"I can truly empathize with my patients as we go through these struggles together.” Through friendship, education and a genuine connection with each patient she strives to help you achieve your optimal health.
